At our home in Georgia, we strive to provide the basic training so necessary to mold the Chesapeake Bay Retriever into a well-adjusted family dog and companion. We live in Conyers on two acres, which back onto Honey Creek and a small horse farm affording us privacy in a "bedroom" community of Atlanta.

Our Chesapeakes share our home with us, although they have their own suite—whereby they have their toys, treats, food, and beds. Our girls range in age from three months to eight years and they all share their toys, treats, and beds with each other. The youngest is treated gently and lovingly by her older "sisters" and rarely is a growl or yip heard. We pride ourselves on how our Chesapeakes get along with each other, other dogs, and people.

Since we have neighbors and family near us, many kids visit and traipse in and out of our house. However, our yard is fenced and a small kennel keeps our girls secure when we do need them confined. I stress, however; we are not a kennel and if puppies are planned it is with careful thought.

Although I taught basic and advanced obedience and show handling through the Adult Education Programs of three school districts for sixteen years, I do not offer training at our site unless it is on an individual basis with special circumstances. As an Emitrus Junior Showmanship Judge, I do offer show handling to interested Chesapeake owners with their dogs or, if they want to learn on an experienced dog, my own.
